Just a quick note today to say we had another earthquake yesterday down here in Wellington, New Zealand. I believe it was from a similar origin as the one we felt before (when I was in Palmerston North), but this one felt even bigger (magnitude of 6.5!), though it felt like it lasted for a shorter amount of time.
As a result universities have closed for the weekend and our "light opera" show last night was cancelled...still two more to do today though, so that gig's not over yet! (Until the fat lady sings? Haha...). It's time now for everyone to get on with their jobs and lives, almost as if nothing happened, which is a bit bizarre, because everyone's still thinking and talking about it.
In the meantime there are lots of little aftershocks. I'm fairly non-reactive to these situations, maybe it's because I've never been in an earthquake with serious damage, like the big Christchurch earthquake. But it is a bit freaky not knowing if another bigger one might happen, or if the buildings are all okay and earthquake-safe. They all get checked after earthquakes, which is why universities are closed. I did see a fire engine and ambulance on my way home yesterday, so hopefully everyone is okay.
Here's hoping everything and everyone is okay in the near future, here in NZ!
